The University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Vice Chancellor for Research Dr. Steven R. Goodman is welcoming Dr. Aaron Ciechanover to Memphis for the first time in January 2018. Dr. Ciechanover is an Israeli Biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for the discovery of the ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation” in 2004. His discoveries have opened up opportunities in drug discovery, and in the diagnostics and treatment for a range of
disorders, from cancer to neurodegeneration.

During Dr. Ciechanover’s visit, he will meet with UTHSC leadership, faculty, staff and students as well as deliver a scientific talk as an invited VCR Distinguished Lecturer. On the evening of January 15, 2018, the Memphis Jewish Community is invited to a town hall event. Entitled “An Intimate Evening with Aaron Ciechanover,” the Nobel Laureate will host a compelling conversation on what it is like to grow up alongside the State of Israel, mirroring Israel’s 70 years of existence. The town hall will take place from 5:45-6:30pm in the Social Hall of the Memphis Jewish Community Center.

Admission is free. Event tickets are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis via Eventbrite. Registration is required and will be open from Nov. 20-Dec. 22, 2017. There is a four (4) ticket maximum per order.
