Anshei Sphard-Beth El Emeth Congregation is honored to welcome to Memphis, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis of the United Kingdom. Rabbi Mirvis serves as the 11th Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, succeeding Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.
Rabbi Mirvis was born in South Africa. He lived in Israel from 1973 to 1982, and obtained his semicha there, while simultaneously earning a degree in Education and Classical Hebrew from the University of South Africa. He served as Chief Rabbi of Ireland between 1985 and 1992. His most recent post before being elevated to Chief Rabbi was that of rabbi at Finchley United Synagogue, as known as Kinloss, in London. He founded and directed the Kinloss Learning Centre for adult education, the Morasha Jewish Primary School, and the Kinloss Community Kollel.
You are invited to join us for Shacharit morning services starting at 8am. There will be a complimentary breakfast honoring the Chief Rabbi at 8:45am, followed by his address to the community at approximately 9:30am. Following the conclusion of Rabbi Mirvis's talk, there will be an opportunity to meet him at a "meet and greet" with coffee, tea and pastries at 10:30am.
