The MJCC is proud to partner with the Aleph Society to host the 2017 Global Day of Jewish Learning, Memphis location.

This year's theme is: Beauty and Ugliness

“Each one of the various kinds of good – the aesthetic, the functional, and the moral – has a different set of rules with its own compelling inner logic, and unfortunately, the categories are not interconnected. Thus, beauty can be morally wrong, impractical, or even dangerous. Most poisonous mushrooms, for instance, are much more beautiful than the edible ones. Conversely, something that violates the laws of aesthetics is not necessarily immoral: an ugly person can be deeply righteous.”

Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz, “Good”, from Simple Words

“Torah is the shared inheritance of all the Jewish people.
It does not belong to a special sect or an elite group of the Jews.
We have a responsibility to share our common heritage with all Jews.
We each get an equal share.”

-Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz

The Global Day of Jewish Learning is meant to imbue an appreciation for the texts that define us, and to inspire hope in the commonalities that unite us. Guided by the values of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz – that Jewish texts should be available to all Jews, that the Torah belongs to us all – the Global Day will remind us that although we may be dispersed across the globe, we shall always stand together. The Global Day is dedicated to the life and legacy of Ralph I. Goldman z”l.
